Carriage House at Lee’s Farm
SUNDAY APRIL 23, 2-4 PM Carriage House at Lee’s Farm
IF YOU ATE TODAY…THANK A FARMER! WAYLAND’S TRUCK FARMS AND ROADSIDE STANDS
Wayland native and WHS life-member Bob Dorey will talk about Wayland’s truck farms and roadside stands and their operation during the 1900s. Wayland farms – many now residential developments such as “Plainview Estates”, and those on Decatur and Moore Roads – produced vegetables, dairy products and livestock for local and Boston markets through much of the 20th century. Drawing from personal experience working as a teenager at local farms, and from information pass down to him by older residents, Bob will discuss local landmarks such as Lee’s Farm Market, Mainstone Farm, Watertown Dairy, Pinky Smith’s Farmstand, Walnut Hill, Harrington’s and the Hynes’ farms

Favorite Space - Memorable Places
Sunday April 30, 2 PM Council on Aging, Wayland Town Building
FAVORITE SPACES/MEMORABLE PLACES
The Historical Society and the Council on Aging solicited photographs of favorite places in Wayland – riverbanks, fields, schoolyards, Russell’s, and many more. These photos, and those who took them, are ready for sharing and conversation. In addition, Jane Sciacca will talk about four special Wayland photographers of the 19th/early 20th centuries and show an extensive selection of their photographs from the Wayland Museum collection. Come see if your favorite places are represented – either in the past or the present. Then, enjoy the Friends of the Library Book Sale in the large hearing room.
